What does God want us to remember? The final chapter of the Old Testament, found in the book of Malachi, closes with a message that is just as urgent today as it was thousands of years ago. God calls His people to remember three things: the story of Scripture is about Him, not us; He remembers every act of faithfulness offered in His name; and a day is coming when everything will be made right. Israel had turned faith into a transaction. They expected blessings in return for obedience, and when those blessings did not come, they looked around and concluded that wicked people were doing just fine. They began calling the arrogant blessed. Sound familiar? This is what happens when we forget who the story is really about. But right in the middle of Israel's complaint, God highlights a faithful remnant. These people feared the Lord, gathered with others who shared their faith, spoke openly about what they believed, and kept serving even when it was hard. God heard them and wrote their faithfulness down in a book of remembrance. Scripture points to three books that carry eternal significance. The Book of Remembrance records the faithfulness of those who fear God's name, and He is still writing it today. The Book of the Law is God's completed Word, telling us who He is and how to know Him. The Lamb's Book of Life records the names of all who have trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and one day it will be opened. The Old Testament ends not with a period but with a promise. God promised to send a forerunner before the great Day of the Lord, a promise fulfilled in John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus. The Savior has come. He died for sin, rose from the dead, and is coming again, not as a helpless child, but as a reigning King. If you have been measuring God's faithfulness by what you have received, or if your faith has quietly become about what you can get from God, this message is for you. Take an honest look at why you serve Him. Surround yourself with people who genuinely fear God. And ask yourself the most important question of all: is your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life?
